It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Management Committee, to bring greetings to all members of the Commonwealth Geographical Bureau (CGB).
Through the Commonwealth Secretariat in the United Kingdom, the CGB, as an accredited civil society Commonwealth organization, has the opportunity for linkages and working relations with other intergovernmental organizations in the Commonwealth. The 2002 High Level Review of the Commonwealth recognized that ‘the networks for sharing expertise, information and experience among organizations, the people-to-people links and the existence of a wider Commonwealth civil society are valuable assets that give the Commonwealth a depth and reach that is unique’. Information in this regard will be posted when relevant, on the CGB website.
The current management committee (for 2016-2020) was elected by those members present at the CGB General Assembly that was held during the International Geographical Congress in Beijing August 2016, and it was my honour to have been elected President. At that Assembly, we were able to thank the immediate past President, Professor Tony Binns (Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand) and the former management committee for their work and commitment to the CGB in the previous period (2012-2016). The CGB Mandate
We are the representative body of some 300 geography departments, units, sections and faculties within universities and higher institutes of learning in the 53 Commonwealth family of countries.
